We should only have one resolution each year and it should be that each and every day we bring to mind those things that are most important to us.
Whether it is making a change, breaking a habit or a commitment to create more joy and love in your life.
Simply creating a resolution because it is a new year is of no value without having a plan to integrate those changes into your daily life.
How many years have we made resolutions without actually creating a plan on how to make it happen?
Maybe the goal is to lose twenty pounds; but without daily thought on how to accomplish the desired action it is now three weeks, three months, possibly three years later and you are still no further towards your goal.
How do we bring those things we want into focus on a daily basis? There are many ways to integrate gentle reminders into your life and they are painless and effective. I will use the example of weight loss that I spoke about earlier because it is a common resolution that is usually lost about the second week of January.
These ideas are right out of my two books in the “All I Want is … Everything” series and from the feedback from readers they can be very effective if used daily.
Choose your focus, in this case it is to lose 20 pounds. Write it on the top of the note card or set a reminder on your computer’s calendar and even make a note on your phone. Include the general goal and a specific step you can are choosing to apply today and then each day read the benefit of achieving both the general goal and the benefit of the step you took.
Let me give you an example.
On my note card at the top would be:
I choose to lose 20 pounds. It is important to write that you are choosing because the only way to succeed is to do it because you are making the choice.
I choose to not drink beverages with sugar today. Instead I choose to drink water with a splash of juice or lemon. Again make sure to use choose because no one is forcing you into this and there is no stress because we are only thinking about today.
If I lose 20 pounds my health would improve and I would feel more comfortable about joining a yoga class.
If I choose to not drink soda today but replace it with something better for my body not only will I be moving towards becoming healthier, but there are added benefits such as healthier skin and hair.
Now let’s say that you need a little more motivation, then you can look up some facts that will support your change and using the same example above add a small note at the bottom to remind yourself.
I realize that one twelve ounce can of soda contains ten teaspoons of sugar!
Read your card first thing in the morning and look at it throughout the day until you feel you have a handle on the soda consumption then create an additional card and take another step, maybe adding in walking to your daily routine.
This is how real changes happen, day by day, with gentle reminders. Whether it is your career, relationships or creating a beautiful life, it is always a choice you make day by day , not once a year.
So make the commitment to continue with me on this beautiful journey to a healthier, happier more joyful and loving life by beginning today with one new resolution.
Joie de Vivre!
